Durham

Explore Everything Durham Has to Offer

When the iconic Bull Durham was filmed in the 1980s, Durham was portrayed as a small city with good-natured people. Larger now (population 263,000), with a stellar minor league athletic park, massively redeveloped road system and many new and redeveloped residential areas—Durham nonetheless hasn’t lost a whit of that neighborliness.

The Bull City’s other highlight is its cultural centers. There are bookstores, coffee shops, craft beer breweries, and no small number of independent restaurants and bars. It has many events—among the bigger gatherings are the Festival for the Eno music and arts festival, N.C. ComiCon, American Dance Festival and the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival. The Durham Performing Arts Center (DPAC) and Carolina Theatre are always bustling – when the show Hamilton chose its limited U.S. tour in 2018, DPAC was on the list.
